Program Notes

As someone who teaches beginning orchestras, I’m always looking for songs my students can perform in their first few years of playing. When I wrote Apple Orchard Picnic, my goal was to create something that is fun and exciting to play while still being accessible for students who are new to playing music with different parts. I live in beautiful Washington state, where we are known for our apples, so I pictured a picnic adventure in an apple orchard as the setting for the music. I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I enjoyed writing it, and watch out for ants!
