Spring Fest

Composer David Hinds brings the sounds of spring to life in this energetic and playful piece. Using only the first six notes of the D major scale, this composition is very playable and is an excellent choice to introduce ensemble playing to beginning students.

Program Notes

Spring Fest is a .5 string orchestra piece that is perfect for young and first year players. It has an appealing melodic character and gives the students a chance to learn the importance of dynamics. The rhythms include whole, half, quarter and eighth notes. The repeated eighths appear only on the same written note to simplify the counting. The 2nd violin and viola parts are doubled as are the cello and bass parts. This allows more security for young players. Spring Fest will be fun for the students and enjoyable for concerts and festivals.
