Lakeland, Florida (March 15, 2023) – Kendor Music Publishing is thrilled to release The Latin American String Collection, 30 Songs in Authentic Styles with Accompaniment Tracks, a collection of original pieces for string instruments in traditional Latin American styles, such as Tango, Rumba, Merengue and Salsa, written by composer Mark Contreras Gómez. A highlight included in the collection are the carefully-curated accompaniment tracks for each piece – both Play-Along and Full Recording versions – including some that are performed by the composer and on instruments indigenous to the regions from where each style has roots.
Each of the books – for Violin, Viola & Cello – is laid out with a strong focus on pedagogic sequencing, written at accessible grade levels 1 to 3. With historical context and engaging information from the composer included for each piece, The Latin American String Collection introduces Latin American styles and dances as the musician progresses. An educational resource, the collection is divided into five sections: Open Strings, First Finger, Second Finger, Third Finger, Fourth Finger and Chromatic Changes.
“Educators can now teach string instruments in a totally innovative way with Latin American musical accompaniment. This new collection offers students the rousing flavor of the Salsa, Mambo, Bossa nova, Bachata and many more!” Composer and author Mark Contreras Gómez continues, “Filled with music as rich in harmony and especially in rhythm as Latin American music, The Latin American String Collection will bring light to both students and teachers!”
Born and raised in Venezuela, composer Mark Contreras Gómez brings a wealth of experience to this collection. Mark trained in the Venezuelan Orchestra System. He has a degree in pedagogy from the National University of Distance Education (UNED) in Spain, and he obtained the title of Superior Professor of Violin at the National Conservatory Juan José Landaeta in Venezuela. He was a member of the Caracas Municipal Symphony Orchestra and other prestigious symphony orchestras and has produced various publications and methodologies for musical instruction used in more than 70 schools in Spain.
Soloists can practice and perform each distinctive style with free downloadable accompaniment tracks for each piece, which include click count-offs. Full Recording versions are also available for each piece.
Books in the new The Latin American String Collection, for Violin, Viola, and Cello, are available for $12.99 from music retailers and from the publisher.
