“Bayview Drive” is a shuffle with a hard swinging groove. The chart features fun, riff style melodies, nice counterpoint, bluesy harmonies and a solo for Trombone 1. After the solo there are strong unison passages followed by a roaring, richly-scored shout chorus. To make the most of the chart, emphasize the groove and the dynamics. There is a suggested, written solo for the trombone soloist; but your soloist should be encouraged to improvise. The chord changes are approachable: Bb9 to Eb9 and the following blues scales may be used throughout: Bb, C, Db, F, G, and Bb, Db, Eb, E, F, Ab.
