As a follow-up to his successful “Absolutely Beethoven,” arranger Tyler Arcari crafted a new piece using the music of Bach as the foundation. Tyler has a gift for seamlessly melding pieces together to create something fresh, exciting, and interesting, and “Basically Bach” is the perfect example.

Program Notes

A couple of years ago, I was talking with a colleague about how many musicians leave the profession before they ever reach the level required to play some of the great classics. While there is wonderful new music being written every day that deserves to be played and performed, my holistic approach to music makes me want students to experience it all, not just the new.

In fact, there are many mash-ups of works by old, deceased composers out there, but I thought it might be fun to present their music in more of a “sort-of” style—almost as a re-imagining. So, I started with a work called “Absolutely Beethoven,” and the natural progression seemed to be “Basically Bach.” Who knows what will be next—”Helplessly Handel” or maybe “Very Vivaldi”? The sky is the limit.
