Flagship

Description

The Cello section is highlighted with the first statement of the adventurous theme of “Flagship.” Through the rest of the piece, composer Doug Spata takes us on an exploration of that theme as it is developed and contoured.

Program Notes

Set in a bold and defiant B minor, “Flagship” has a confident sound that beginners will love. Large leaps in the melodies are intended to aid in note reading skills, and simple on-the-beat accompaniments will keep everyone playing together. This piece has the dark sound that young students respond to, while the simple rhythms and exciting melodies make it easily approachable for beginners.
