Old Havana

Description

The opening portion of this Latin Rock chart is set in C minor at 144 bpm. The rhythm section parts are well-notated, and the chart grooves along before kicking into high gear with a Piano montuno at 215 bpm to set up the burning second section. A great workout for the whole band!

Program Notes

“Old Havana” is a medium Latin rock with a little Cuba mixed in. The melody floats over the light Latin rock feel as the writing/orchestration expands. A piano Montuno easily transitions into the faster improv section ala Cuban style. Soloists can play over these basic changes and explore their Latin side language! After the solos, and a Drum break, the Piano (once again) easily sets the tempo back to the original tempo, locking the band back into the Latin rock groove. Accessible, locked in grooves and a fun Montuno/Cuban section allows the band to explore this style and improv with ease. Take a trip to “Old Havana” with your band this concert season.
