Luck of the Draw - Doug Beach
Luck of the Draw - SoloMate

Description

From the opening notes to the final chord “Luck of the Draw” bristles with energy and excitement. The hard charging swing groove provides the perfect setting for the rhythmic melodic line. With plenty of ensemble work and an open solo section, this is the perfect opener on your next program.

Program Notes

The Drums get the spotlight in the introduction. The Drummer should work to fill in the bars and set up the next ensemble figure. The Bass should dig in hard when the groove hits in bar 7.

The Saxes have the opening melody at bar 11 and are then joined by the brass. Keep all articulations nice and crisp through all of this. The interlude then leads to the solo section at bar 51 which may be opened up. Improvisation should be encouraged, but written solos are provided. Backgrounds may be played as desired and should be cued. Following the solo section, the full band returns on the bridge to take the chart out.
