Description

First released in 1963, this theme-and-variations setting of the great Civil War song takes some refreshing liberties with the old favorite. After the tune is played in traditional 6/8 style, a lyrical section in 3/4 presents melodic elements in elongation. Next comes an allegro rendering in 2/4, followed by a spirited recap in 6/8 to bring it all to a fitting conclusion. Duration 2:50.
