William Palange
William Palange was a high school band director for over 34 years. He conducted the Oswego (NY) High School Wind Ensemble and Concert Band, and was director of the Oswego HS Marching Buccaneers until his retirement in 2010. Prior to his tenure in Oswego, he taught in the Jordan-Elbridge (NY) and Greece (NY) school districts.
Mr. Palange holds a degree in music education from the University of Miami (FL), where he performed as trombonist under the baton of Dr. Fredrick Fennell with the UM Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble.
He continues to be active as a guest conductor, composer and performer in and around central New York. He appears frequently as guest conductor for school band festivals, All County and Area All State events across New York state. His compositions for concert band, “Atlas,” “Alliance,” and “Nine Mile Saga” have been published by Alfred Music Publishers.
As trombonist, he has backed up nationally-acclaimed artists including Frankie Valli, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, Natalie Cole, Tony Bennett, Bernadette Peters and Marvin Hamlisch . He has also performed with the Gap Mangione Big Band and Danny D’Imperio’s “Bloviation.” He is currently lead trombonist with the CNY Jazz Orchestra, the Salt City Jazz Collective, the Mario DeSantis Orchestra and the Bearcat Jazz Band and also appears frequently with the Anthony Joseph Swingtet.
Mr. Palange resides in Oswego with his wife Bobbie and cat, Ella.
