Thomas Schudel

Born and raised in Defiance, Ohio, Tom Schudel earned his degrees from Ohio State University (BS Music Education 1959, MA Theory and Composition 1961) and the University of Michigan (DMA Composition 1971). He teaches composition bassoon at the University of Regina in Saskatchewan, Canada, where he has served on the faculty since 1964. In 1974 he became a Canadian citizen.

Dr. Schudel’s music has been performed in Italy, Ireland, the U.S. and all across Canada. His “”Symphony no. 1″” won first prize in the 1972 City of Trieste International Competition. He has also written commissions for the CBC Vancouver Chamber Orchestra, the Regina Symphony, the Saskatchewan Music Educators Association, the Saskatchewan Choral Federation, and the CBC Regina. He is a member of the Canadian League of Composers, the Canadian Music Centre and the Performing Rights Organizations Canada Ltd.

In June 1980 Schudel was one of just five composers chosen to attend the National Choreographic Seminar held in Banff, Alberta.
