Kristen Shiner-McGuire
Following her graduation in 1980 from the University of Illinois (BM with Highest Honors in percussion performance), she studied marimba for a year in Tokyo at the Toko School of Music with Keiko Abe. In 1983 she completed requirements for her MM degree and Performer’s Certificate in percussion at the Eastman School of Music under the guidance of teacher John Beck.
Since 1984 Ms. Shiner McGuire has served as Coordinator of Percussion Studies at Nazareth College in Rochester (NY). The Nazareth College Percussion Ensemble has performed at state and national conventions. In 1998, Ms. Shiner McGuire received the Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award; and won the 1993 Outstanding Chapter President Award for her service to the International Percussive Arts Society. She is an active performer throughout the United States as a percussionist, marimbist, drum set artist, and singer.
Kristen is percussion editor for The School Music News (NYSSMA), and has had several articles published in The Instrumentalist and Percussive Notes magazines.
