Julie Lyonn Lieberman

Julie Lyonn Lieberman is an eclectic styles violinist and vocalist specializing in improvisation and American vernacular as well as world styles. She is the Artistic Director for the summer program, Strings Without Boundaries, a D’Addario Elite Clinician, and an NS Design Performance Artist. Ms. Lieberman has presented state teacher training and master classes in school systems throughout the United States and is the recipient of the 2014 American String Teachers Association’s KUDOS Award in addition to three citations for leadership and merit.

Lieberman’s titles for Kendor include junior and senior level scores that can be performed separately but are also designed to interlock for your local community string festival: Bollywood Strings (the first educational string score with a dedicated electric violin part for junior and senior levels), Celtic Butterfly and Klezmer Celebration. She has also created innovative scores with backing tracks, such as TechnoStrings and A Cinematic Journey. French Roast is a popular-selling score based on the Provencal style from Southern France.

A co-author of American String Teachers Association’s national curriculum book, she is also the author of nine music books, two National Public radio series, six educational DVD’s and over fifty magazine articles. Lieberman is the recipient of over thirty ASCAP awards and eight Meet The Composer awards. She has performed her original music on and off Broadway, throughout the U.S. and Canada, in Europe, and on television and radio. In 2007, she wrote and produced the DVD, Alternative String Styles In The Classroom for American String Teachers Association and NAMM, and has created master lessons for D’Addario Bowed Strings’ website.

Lieberman’s books include You Are Your Instrument, The Contemporary Violinist, Alternative Styles: The New Curriculum, Creative Band and Orchestra, Improvising Violin, Rockin’ Out with Blues Fiddle, and Planet Musician. DVDs include Rhythmizing the Bow, Techniques for the Contemporary String Player, The Violin in Motion,and Violin and Viola Ergonomics.
