John Dupuis

John Dupuis (ASCAP) is entering his twentieth year as a music educator in the State of Florida and is currently the Music Supervisor for Volusia County Schools. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Dupuis was the Director of Bands and Orchestras at Spruce Creek High School, where he taught courses in Symphonic Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, AP Music Theory, and Marching Band. In addition, he is past Conductor of the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra (7 years), past Conductor of the Sarasota Orchestra Youth Symphony (2 years) and the Summer at the Symphony Music Program, and for six years was the Director of Bands at Howard W. Blake Performing Arts High School in Tampa, Florida. Mr. Dupuis received his Bachelor’s degrees in Music Education and Music Composition and his Master of Music degree in Conducting, Music Education and Music Composition from the University of South Florida.

Ensembles under his direction have performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, Southwark Cathedral in London, as well as venues in Ireland, England, Germany, France, Chicago, Savannah, Orlando, Tampa, and Washington D.C. His ensembles have consistently received superior ratings, including numerous ‘straight superior’ ratings at the state level, earning the prestigious Otto J. Kraushaar award for straight superior ratings at all district and state events. In Chicago, his Wind Ensemble earned the title of ‘Grand Champion’ of the Chicago National Wind Band Invitational, and most recently, his 220 member marching band earned the title of ‘Grand Champion’ of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland.

In addition to his duties as Director of Instrumental Music, Mr. Dupuis is an active composer and arranger, with works being commissioned and performed by various ensembles throughout the United States, including the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Radford University, New Mexico State University, the Florida Orchestra, the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra, The Sarasota Orchestra, the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies, and others. His band compositions/arrangements have been performed by numerous college and high school bands throughout Florida. His music has also been featured at Universal Studios’ “Islands of Adventure”. Mr. Dupuis’ works are published through Wingert-Jones, Daehn Music Publications and Wehr’s Music House Publishers.
