Frank Mantooth
A graduate of North Texas State University and the Austrian Akadamie fuer Musik, he was active as a pianist, composer, arranger, clinician, educator, and recording artist. Frank’s five albums “Suite Tooth,” “Persevere,” “Dangerous Precedent,” “Sophisticated Lady” and “A Miracle” garnered a total of eleven Grammy nominations in both writing and playing categories.
Frank taught at numerous universities, high schools, and summer jazz camps. He wrote a number of commissions from the Kansas City Symphony, the Madison Symphony Orchestra, Doc Severinsen, Pete Christlieb, Louie Bellson, and the Airmen of Note.
In 1999 the Wichita Jazz Festival bestowed on Frank the annual Homer Osborne award for outstanding contributions to jazz education. Frank was also included in the 2001 edition of Grove’s Dictionary of Jazz.
