Donald M. Sherman
Donald M. Sherman has taught instrumental music in the Northport-East Northport School District since 1984. With degrees in Music Education, Composition, and Performance from Ithaca College, he has been an active performer, conductor, composer, and arranger for thirty years.
He has served as Associate Director of the Northport Community Band since 1986. From 1992-2000 Mr. Sherman was Musical Director of the concert band at Fordham University. He has been busy as a guest conductor, leading festival bands of all ages and presenting clinics throughout New York.
As a euphoniumist, Mr. Sherman has performed with many groups including the Long Island Tuba Quartet, Atlantic Wind Symphony, Seuffert Band, Queens Festival Band, Gramercy Brass of New York, Riverhead’s No-Doubt-World-Famous Monday-Night Band.
Since 1985, Mr. Sherman has served on the organizing committee for the Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association Day of Tuba and Euphonium. Each year he has contributed original ensemble arrangements to the festival and conducted the massed ensemble of more than 200 tubas and euphoniums.
Mr. Sherman is the editor of the Euphonium Solos section of the 30th edition of the NYSSMA Manual. He lives in East Northport, NY with his wife, flutist Deborah Sherman, and children Emily, Benjamin, and Gabriel.
