Description
George Shutack is a name that has long been associated with excellence in music for young jazz ensembles. His new chart “Second Chance” is a winning choice for any program. Straight ahead swing figures, blues changes and there is a wealth of ensemble work in this chart, too. Perfect for concert or festival!
Program Notes
Everyone loves a solid blues chart and “Second Chance” hits that nerve perfectly. The ample use of basic swing figures creates a wonderful platform for your band to learn the fundamentals of playing a swing chart.
Make sure everyone pays close attention to the articulation markings throughout the chart. Those markings tell the musicians how to play the notes.
The solo section at bar 35 may be opened up. Improvisation should be encouraged, but written solos are provided. Backgrounds should be played as desired and should be cued.
The ensemble returns at bar 47 for a soft shout section and then builds as the chart goes out. Again, articulations are the key elements to a successful performance.
