Description
Kendor is delighted to welcome composer Joe Snyder to the catalog! This medium-up swing chart was written for the 2024 Tennessee All-State Jazz Band. There is a great “brass only” section after the solos that makes this chart something special!
Program Notes
The title is a homage to the great American composer, arranger and orchestrator Nelson Riddle with the writing featuring a few of his signature tools including cup muted trumpets, closed 4 – part voicings and even a brief Bass Bone solo which is a nod to the great LA bass trombonist, George Roberts who was Nelson’s go-to player and also the Trombone instructor of his son Christopher. When performing this chart it is important to focus on the balance, especially on the first two statements of the head so that the tone colors are pronounced. It’s also important to not overplay on the brass and Sax soli sections to allow the lines to really swing. The Bass Bone solo at the end should be big and exaggerated and as rubato as desired.
