Inspired by his vocalist collegue and her brilliant lyrical phrasing when creating a melody, Peter Blair brings us a chart based on the chord changes from “The Nearness of You.”

Program Notes

I have had the great pleasure of working with many talented singers during my career…some of the big names you would certainly recognize, but I always associate “The Nearness of You” with a dear friend of mine who sang with my big band while I was in Milwaukee – whose name wouldn’t ring any bells for you. In this new composition I tried to capture her lyrical phrasing when crafting the melody. I’m planning on sending her the recording of this chart to get her stamp of approval.
