Description
Arranger Tyler Arcari can’t resist a fun Christmas mash-up! “A Very Vivaldi Christmas” takes two well-known melodies from Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons,” “Winter,” and “Spring,” and mixes them with Christmas Carols.
Program Notes
I have had a fascination with mixing and combining unrelated works of music since before I started writing. I remember listening to my friend play piano in a jazz combo, and every so often, he would look over at us, smirk, and add in a completely unrelated melody from a TV show. It was a little secret language-something only really active listeners would catch-and a special treat for those of us who knew there was always a possibility of a sneaky motif added into a standard.
I am also a child of the ’90s, and Mannheim Steamroller was on during Christmastime, playing aggressive, fun, and unique arrangements of classic works. While I don’t think my work sounds like the legendary Steamroller, I do think these two influences sparked my desire to mash works together.
“A Very Vivaldi Christmas” takes two well-known melodies from Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons-“Winter” and “Spring”-and mixes them with Christmas carols.
I hope you and your audience have as much fun with this one as I did making it work!
